MIXED MEDIA MONDAY - New Toys and a Give Away!

Speaking of Mixed Media, I ordered some things from Oriental Trading last week. I needed a bunch of those mister bottles (like the ones from Ranger). These are exactly like those without the logo and I get 2x as many for the price. So while I was ordering those, I added a few other items I couldn't pass up.

The six boxes in the back hold 6 of the mister bottles. I also ordered 2 pkgs of Washi Tape (Tell me.. does that surprise any of you? LOL) 1 is Travel themed and the other is Sewing theme... and a single roll of Potion Bottles. I already have them labeled and in their forever home. 

I liked this set of Typewriter styled numbers and icons. Now if I just had an alphabet set to match. Will have to keep my eye out..

 And lastly in this picture is a set of purple witch hats. Halloween is coming!

What this picture doesn't show is a set of 'fence' stencils. The first picture shows them all 'punched out':

There are six different fence styles I thought would be interesting in journal pages. But be warned... see all those openings in the fence panels (including the lattice one at the top...) They come still filled in and you need to punch them out. Here is a picture of one in progress of being punched...

I've dropped all those little pieces into a cup. They may become a spatter pattern across a page or two before they are tossed. 

Next week I'll show you another Mixed Media. A couple gals have asked about the ratio of my paint to water in my spray acrylics. I just ordered 30 more empty bottles from Amazon so I could do all of my Folk Art Acrylics now that they are in their forever home. I might even give you a sneak peek of that unit...

WOYWW # 259

Progress on my Documented Life Planner. I was able to take the journal with me when I attended the Books In Bloom Festival in Eureka Springs Arkansas last weekend. So far the layout is working well. I'll show the insides to you on Monday.

But as you can see, the dining room table is still my working area. My desk downstairs is still clean but by working up here, I'm able to multi-task. You can see the other two comp books in the back waiting for their calendar inserts.

Everyone has commented on the amount of washi tape I have. I went all in LOL. I went from thinking I would never use it to 'ooo I gotta have that one!'.  But as I've stated, they were purchased primarily for the Documented Life Planner project. Washi tape is used as the hinges as well as the page accents. Do I have enough? Probably... but there are a couple patterns in the SU mini that expires the end of this month.

I didn't get around to any desks last week. I was swamped with work and prepping for yet another road trip. I'm home this week and will be around to visit.

MIXED MEDIA MONDAY - Washi Tape!

My Washi Tape arrived in the mail on Wednesday. I still can't believe I bought so much on our trip. The 3 packages of 4 in the center of the picture were purchased on our trip to Springfield this past weekend. I found them at Office Depot. They also 2 separate displays of Scotch brand Washi Tape. Scotch was $2.99 per roll. These are called IE by Office Depot in a 4-pk for $4.99. Much better deal and I found colors I liked better than from Scotch. 

You know me... if it isn't organized I can't do anything so my first task was to determine the best way to store my washi tape AND have EACH roll visible for when I'm creating. Most of my washi tape will be used on the Documented Life Journal and what prompted the washi tape purchasing spree. I had a box storage that seemed to be the perfect fit. I cut the lid off, made dividers using foam core board. I spaced the dividers based on the width of the rolls. some were wider than others.

I do have 3 rolls from SU. Normally, I would store these with SU product but since I will primarily be using this for DLJ and nothing else, I decided to keep everything together.

Oh yeah... one more thing. See the little squares of white paper in the bottom left of the box -below the blue washi. Those are preprinted labels I made. Each roll of tape has a label on the inside of the spool with a company name. I like to give credit where credit is due. Example: the rolls in the very top right - from the skinny orange to the pink with brown polka dots - Heidi Swapp... long before we knew what washi tape was. The tape is slick and more 'tape' than paper but the same concept. These rolls came to me in a Secret Sister box my very first year as a Quacker from sister Maggie. 

MIXED MEDIA MONDAY - More toys

Last week I told you about my ability to bring up the rear when it comes to trends and introduced you to my newest obsession of working with Alcohol Inks (well, as soon as I get them made hehe)

The other thing I've been eyeing for some time but not worked with yet is Washi Tape. I kept telling myself I didn't need any because I have TONS of ribbon and fiber. (who doesn't? LOL)  But two things keep pulling me back. 1) there are some really nifty designs out there that fit my Mixed Media style. 2) I can make my own to match what I'm working on.

So aside from picking up a couple rolls at Michaels while in Paducah a couple weeks ago, I also bought supplies to make my own. a roll of masking tape and a roll of paper tape.

So my measly Washi Tape supply looks like this:

Ignore the spool of bobbin ribbon. LOL The package on the right is part of a collection I got in a Secret Sister swap about 4 years ago. Here's a closer look at the two on the right I bought in Paducah:

I have stamp sets that are for doing borders and I'm looking forward to spreading blank strips out on my desk and creating my own designs. 

Now you guys know me and how I like to be organized. So this Washi Tape/ Ribbon tutorial by JenniBellie on YouTube got my attention. Because we heat with wood, keeping tapes/ ribbons/ etc dust free is not always easy. I really like this option so look for my version on an upcoming Mixed Media blog post.
