MIXED MEDIA MONDAY - Tim Holtz Find!

Good morning, friends!

I'm finishing my ABCs of Me book today and tomorrow. But today I have an incredible find to show you. Great items for mixed media, cards, or anything creative.

Y'all know I am a fan of Tim Holtz. The way his mind works just amazes me... and inspires me.

This past weekend, Bob and I took a couple of days and went into the city. This was our last chance for alone time before the girls arrive for the summer. Bob should go back to work this week. We are back to the day-to-day waiting for the call routine. Anyway, we decided to take a couple of days into the city for some thrifting. He wanted to go to a gun show in Seymour on Saturday and I'd found our new gazebo there. So off to the city we went.

One of our favorite places is Red Racks Thrift Store. Red Racks proceeds go to veterans and they have a great selection. Sadly, they've raised their prices on a lot of things. But I have to show you my KILLER FIND!

This binder was inside one of those zippered-plastic bags that sheets come in:

I was able to look down inside the bag, into the top of the binder to get a glimpse of what was in the binder... I saw STAMPERS ANONYMOUS and TIM HOLTZ. But there wasn't a price anywhere. That said, I knew that short of about $30, this binder was coming home with me.  $9 for the entire lot I'm about to show you. (photo heavy) Names/ Prices listed are on Simon Says Stamps.

Captured Moments - $21.99

Creative Muse - $21.99 (out of stock)

Game of Life - $29.99 (out of stock)

Going Somewhere - $29.99 (out of stock)

Good Thoughts - $21.99

Mini Classics - $29.99

Mini Ornates - $29.99

Stuff to Say - $29.99

Urban Chic - $29.99

GRAND TOTAL RETAIL - $245.91 not counting the binder
and three of those sets are out of stock!

Next week, I'll have the video up for the ABCs of Me Junk Journal as well as a sneak peek of what our May Challenge is all about!

Creative Blessings!

THURSDAY THREADS - A tip

I haven't had a thread post yet this year and thought I should get them rolling again.

I've brought the crochet hook back out. I have problems crocheting in the evenings because the cats want to help... usually lay in my lap. But I usually go to bed around 9 so I can turn on my fan and just wind down a bit before going to sleep. Tabby is my bed mate. She's a cat and cats play with yarn. To make it possible for me to still work on something, not have to chase the yarn off the bed and to keep her out of it, I've devised a plan.

After rolling the yarn into balls, I put each inside a gallon zip bag then cut a small hole in a bottom corner to feed the yarn through. Cat-hair free, Tabby can't get to the yarn (for the most part) and the ball doesn't roll off the bed away from me. I keep the three of them in my project bag and just rotate them out as needed.

This particular color scheme is to be a lap-gan for Abby's bed here at our house. The girl is all about PINK so I know this is a safe combination. I'm using Red Heart. Fiusha, Soft Pink, White.
The stitch is a simple single crochet, chain one, single crochet. the single crochet is worked in the chain space. I am doing 2 rows of the Fiusha then one each Soft Pink, White then repeat. I was planning a full size afghan for a twin bed but only chained 205 stitches for my base. Will be wide enough to go over her ottomon bed and provide a little extra something if the AC is too chilly for her.

Silly me, thought I could do this in one month then do Adrian's - in blues - in May so they'd have them when they got here. I'm not even an 8th of the way through Abby's. Hmmm Oh well, if I can finish them up this summer, they'll have them for their next visit.

What are you working on?

WOYWW #516

I know I've bee absent a bit. Trying to get things ready for the grandgirls visit that didn't happen, then the cards for the quilt shop and from there I just dove into playing with my junk journals and finding new toys to use in them.  I did promise a show and tell of the quilt cards so feel free to keep reading past the desk and I'll show some.

In the mean time, here's what I'm faced with this morning:

I have the Paper Pumpkin kit to work up. Somewhere in that mess is the card kit I put together for the Card Chicks group... and still have my own kit to do! It's just crazy once Bob is home. Then I took four days and went to Springfield for much needed R & R. A bit of shopping, a lot of working on my second book. Now we're looking at Bob going back out early so we'll be spending more time together this week than I'll be working.

Here are some of the cards I took to the quilt shop:

That's it for my desk this week. Who's Miss Julia and why am I here?  When you are done visiting me in the Ozarks, please hop on over to Stamping Ground  for all the details. Miss Julia has a long list of other studios you can peek into. No standing on an up-turned milk pail to look in the window. We open the doors wide and welcome you.  Please leave your number and you'll be among the first on my list.

MIXED MEDIA MONDAY - The Art Bar

Good morning, everyone!

I'm still at the hotel for a couple of more hours. I've had a productive writing/ shopping weekend.

Saturday, my 2nd installment of the Petal Promenade Suite Sweet Journal went live on YouTube. A gal from the ABC Junk Journal group I'm in found my video and invited me to join her group. She said that I'll be able to promote my art work, my you tube channel and anything I might want to sell through YouTube and my blogs. A lot of groups do not allow advertising but Denina is all about artists being able to grow both in art and in their business.

While I'm packing up to head home today, I thought I'd share one of her videos with you. I tried to find a short video for you. Most of her videos are 'bellying up to the crafting bar' as it were and can be over 4 hours long.. .just playing and chatting.. like a crafting open house.

TEAPOT TUESDAY

Good morning, friends!

Last week's TPT celebrated a young man in Oklahoma.. a WWII vet turning 93 years young. We were asked to bring the red white and blue.

I used a Dapper Denim base that worked well with the words. They were cut aparts from a K & Co. Navy paper pad I've had in my stash. I inked white mats with Cherry Cobbler and Dapper Denim behind the words. Added a strip of red glitter for sparkle and cut the Star Blast die from Dazzling Diamonds glitter paper. The stars from the die became accents.

Tomorrow is WOYWW and I'll be showing some of the cards I made for the quilt shop!

MIXED MEDIA MONDAY - Spring Stashbuster Journal semi final

Good morning, friends.

Today, I have the 'final' video for the Spring Stashbuster Junk Journal challenge with dearjuliejulie.
I say 'final' because there is still more embellishments I want to add. I noticed as I was adding things, I did most of the front half of each signature but not much to the back. I worked on them a bit yesterday and will continue to do so here and there.

Our April Challenge is ABC..

Julie has listed each letter of the alphabet and a coordinating item we need to include in 'whatever journal' we want to work on. We don't have to do a new journal.
Since my first book that I showed you back in February... the ABCs of Me needs reworked and all the components are out, I thought this the perfect challenge to finish that book. Beginning next week I'll be giving project updates.

dearjuliejulie also issued our first mini-challenge for the week. By Friday I need to have made a 30 pg mini junk journal to be included. Also, if I understand correctly, each of those pages represents a letter of the alphabet and something that we like coordinating with each letter. Hmmm. I have some thinking to do.

In the mean time, here's the final video of the Spring Stashbuster Junk Journal:

WOYWW #513 - Project

Good morning, friends!

Sorry I've missed the past couple of weeks. Was planning for that visit from the grandgirls that didn't happen then I took part in a 3-day webinar summit. Lots of good information but not a lot of other stuff done.

I finished my Spring Stashbuster Junk Journal over the weekend and got the mandatory video upload done on Sunday night. You can see it HERE:

The entire series has been on every Monday in March if you want to look back.
If you like making journals, I'm starting a new series on my Stampin' UP! site next week. I'm really itching to play with this project.

Today, my desk may look staged but it isn't really. I'm making 20 cards today from the collection on the table. I also have flyers for the new storage system from Stampin' UP! to get ready to mail to customers.  So here is my desk, in all it's glory:

Did I mention those cards have to go to the local quilt shop this afternoon? LOL With the Christmas Quilt stamp set from Stampin' UP! (retired), they won't take long. More die cutting than stamping so they will go quick. Of course, I went into a mild panic this morning when I couldn't find the stamp/ die case for the set. But we're good now. A cup of coffee and I"m ready to roll!

SYMPATHY FOR JULIE

Since I've missed the Teapot Tuesday, I thought this was a good time to share a Sympathy card.

dearjuliejulie, the woman who orchestrates the junk journal challenges I've been playing in, had to say goodbye to her mom last weekend. While she knew this was coming, losing someone isn't easy. I put this card together for Julie this morning..

Julie loves working with lace so I wanted to make sure to include some on her card.

I used the retired SU Gift of Love for the floral and the sentiment is from Love and Sympathy (retired)

The stamped image is matted on Lost Lagoon cardstock with Lost Lagoon ribbon accent. I used Stampin' Blends to color the flowers in Daffodil Delight and stamped the leaves in Sage Shadow (man, I miss that color!)  I added small pearls.. 1 in the center of the largest flower, one in the 'O' in love then three on the lace.

I'll have WOYWW tomorrow so pop back by to see the creative disaster.
 Thank you for stopping by!

MIXED MEDIA MONDAY! - Collage Tags & A Sneak Peak

Good morning, friends!

We are nearing the end of the Spring Stashbusting Junk Journal Challenge.
Julie's co-conspirator threw out another challenge in the middle of mini challenge #3 week - to make 6 Collage tags!  Okay.. so after some thought, I dove in to my 'stash' looking for patterned papers in the rainbow colors (though somehow I managed to miss purple LOL)

So here are the tags I turned in...

I also have bases for yellow.

Technically, the challenge part of the journal is finished though there is more I want to add -like those purple tags. I do have a couple of yellow ones in the journal but want to finish the rest when I do the purple.

I'll be posting the video of my journal here on Friday... but here's a couple of sneak peaks...

1) the video is already live on my planner channel on YouTube.. we had to turn them in yesterday

2)here's a shot of the page edges:

I'll be back tomorrow with a Teapot Tuesday card.
